Iranian state TV aired a video threatening the president's youngest son with a purported $10 million bounty. Meanwhile, the agency protecting him is dealing with its own leak investigation — a separate story worth watching.
The U.S. Secret Service confirmed this week it is aware of a video aired by Iranian state media that appears to threaten the life of Barron Trump, President Donald Trump’s 20-year-old son — the first time the youngest Trump child has been publicly singled out by Tehran since the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran began in February.
The threat
The roughly three-minute video, reportedly produced by outlets linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and aired on state broadcaster IRIB TV3 under the title “Where Should We Kill Barron Trump,” depicts locations where Barron might be found and references a purported $10 million bounty for his killing. The existence of an actual bounty has not been independently verified.
“The U.S. Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees,” spokesperson Nate Herring said in a statement, declining to elaborate further, citing operational security.
Iranian state media has repeatedly threatened President Trump and his family since the U.S. killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, at the outset of the war in February. IRGC-linked media released a similar video targeting first lady Melania Trump last month, mapping her New York movements under a title along the lines of “Where to Kill Melania.” This marks the first time Barron has been targeted by name. President Trump addressed the broader threats against him personally at the NATO summit in July, saying, “I’m on whatever list… so far, I guess I’ve been a bit lucky, but maybe that doesn’t last very long. These are evil, sick people.”
The video makes several additional, unverified claims: that a woman managed to get past Barron’s Secret Service detail and had a private meeting with him, and that he communicates privately via voice and text on Xbox, away from his security detail. None of these claims have been independently confirmed.
A caveat on the video’s origin: The Jerusalem Post reported it could not locate the original footage on Iranian Channel 3’s own platforms, and the clip circulating online features stylized, animated graphics some outlets have noted appear AI-generated. That does not mean the threat isn’t being taken seriously — the Secret Service has confirmed it is investigating — but what’s circulating publicly is a MEMRI-translated clip attributed to Iranian state-linked media, not footage independently verified as broadcast on Iranian television.
A separate story inside the same agency
Independent of the Iran threat, the Secret Service is also contending with an internal personnel matter: three officials, including the agency’s communications director, were placed on administrative leave this week amid a criminal investigation into a separate leak of classified information — reportedly related to sensitive details about the new Air Force One aircraft’s missile-defense systems. That inquiry follows an earlier, unrelated leak investigation this summer involving a member of Vice President JD Vance’s protective detail.
No public reporting connects the leak investigation to the Barron Trump threat, and this article draws no link between them. Both are simply true at once: an agency tasked with protecting the president’s family is managing a serious foreign threat to a protectee’s life, while its own communications leadership faces separate scrutiny over how sensitive information has been handled internally.
